The Hoover House, formally known as the Lou Henry Hoover House or the Lou Henry and Herbert Hoover House, is a historic house on the campus of Stanford University that serves as the home of its president. As a freshman, I worked with a team of two other designers to design a crest for the house to use across its marketing, outreach and invitations.
Hoover House
01 Concept
Before drawing anything, I visited several times, talked with our client and studied the house’s history, its architecture and how it’s used today: hosting dinners, receptions and visiting guests on behalf of the university. Six words came out of that research and became the test for every decision:

02 Logo
The final crest centers on an illuminated H, in the tradition of the decorated initials in old manuscripts. Flowers and oak leaves found at the house grow symmetrically around it, so the mark feels natural without losing its formality. Deep red and gold tie it to Stanford while giving the house its own warmth. The visualizations below test the crest across real materials, from wax seals and letterpress to embroidery and enamel.

Visualizations rendered using Photoshop and ChatGPT.
03 Mockups
Art directed and 3D modeled using Canva, Photoshop and Mockup World.

04 Iterations
Art directed by my teammate Senching Hsia and me using Procreate. Half of these iterations are my own.
